New Year Updates

Project Grant has received some great local press thanks to Buffalo Rising and The Public. The fundraising campaign is currently at 50% of its goal, and I have until the end of January to secure the rest. In order for me to receive any of the donations, I need to reach my target goal of $3000. To make a tax deductible donation, and receive a great perk as a plus, please visit the Hatchfund site. Every donation matters!

Also in the news, I have a show opening January 9 at Big Orbit Gallery in Buffalo. I received some nice coverage by the Buffalo News, and The Public choose the event for its Friday night pick!

Seeking Support to Launch New Project

Seldom within one person do you find such an equilibrium, someone with utopian visions yet all the while grounded and pragmatic. This person is Tina Dillman. She is a First Responder Artist! – Paul Kos

In May of this year, I accomplished a long sought after dream, and earned my Master’s of Fine Arts, from the San Francisco Art Institute. After finishing, I received a fellowship to attend The Studio Program in Los Angeles, but shortly after arriving to LA, I received a call that changed everything, and brought me to the other side of the country. In returning to Central New York, I realized that what I was aspiring to do next was near the place I originally called home.

I found a house in Buffalo, NY that I plan to open in the Summer 2015, as, Project Grant, a 6-week socially engaged artist residency program that hosts one artist at a time in my home. Each artist will be provided a stipend, room/board, a studio and an exhibition space. I will be working with the artist to build relationships in the local community, to develop a site-specific public project that may include: classes, talks, readings, dinners, walks or performance/film/music events, in order to cultivate a discourse involving pertinent local/national/global issues.

Project Grant, is located in an up and coming neighborhood in Buffalo, where one could walk to the store, or local coffee shop, ride their bike to the park, and/or drive a short distance (15 minutes) to the art museums. The landlord is extremely supportive of my project, and believes I would be a great addition to the neighborhood. I am looking to host 3 Artists for my first year and double the number of artists in the program by 2016, and use the exhibition space during off months of the residency to exhibit local artists’ work.

In order to fully realize this goal I need to raise $3,000, by the end of the year, in order to secure the first artist in residence (June-July). If you are interested in supporting this project please visit the Hatchfund campaign site.

I thank you for supporting the arts and may all of our dreams become reality. Here’s to thinking of the future…

There is a lot in store here.

I am leaving today, by car, for the place that I have called home most of my life. I moved in at the age of five. Like most others at the time, I moved out when I was 18 for college, and never came back to live. Last year after returning from Europe, I had the pleasure of spending the summer home. I was able to do enjoy creating new memories of the place that I always thought was beautiful from childhood, and with the luxury of the added privileges for actually being an adult, well let’s just say that summer was a lot of fun.

My home is being placed on Auction August 7th, and I am coming home to move out of 3925 Kenwood Rd. Oneida, NY 13421

Graduate Thesis Project

_______ vs. _______ (& everything that falls in b/w), is my Master of Fine Art Thesis Exhibition for the San Francisco Art Institute. This exhibition will be held at the Old Mint, in San Francisco, from May 14-18, 2014. My thesis project includes the work of local artists, Elizabeth Cayne, Scott Greenwalt, Erik Parra, and Karen Thomas. Through the installation of people, text, objects, photography, drawings, paintings, and collage, alternative spaces on the vault floor and within proximity of the building, will be transformed into their own private/public viewing areas. This exhibition questions the value and intention of a graduate thesis show, in a city that is currently experiencing a high rate of evictions for artists, gallerists and cultural centers, at a site that embodies the currency and history of this city.

I will be producing three site specific performances that will occur on Wednesday May 14, from 8-10:00pm for the Gala Vernissage Art for Dessert, Friday May 16, from 7-9pm for the Public Opening Reception, and Saturday May 17, from 6-8pm for the Alumni event. In addition to these hours the installation-based work will be on view to the public, Thursday May 15 through Sunday May 18, from 11am-6pm. A limited edition artist made catalogue for ________ vs. ________ (& everything that falls in b/w), will be on sale in the Book Room, on the first floor of the Mint. If you are unable to attend the event and would like to purchase a catalogue for $15, please click on the PayPal link below.

I’m back

in San Francisco after being absent for nine months. I’ve been to six countries in Europe and spent some time on the East Coast; teaching, making new work, meeting some amazing people, having memorable experiences, all while finding myself. So, what’s next…plenty. I will keep you posted, but for now, check out my new curatorial project with San Francisco based artist, Erik Parra.
